Fantasy Football Post Week Four Waiver Wire

Zack examines some waiver wire additions heading into week five of the NFL season.

Baker MayField

As soon as Mayfield got on the field against the Raiders he showed why he was a top pick. Mayfield was able to make the timely deep ball throws and stretch the field with ease against the Raiders. Turnovers are going to happen. For now Mayfield can be looked at as a fantasy backup quarterback with start potential if need be.

Jameis Winston

Winston’s mop up duty was not pretty but he will be the Bucs starter outside of their week five bye week. Winston’s ability to stretch the field is on the level with Fitz but Winston does have a better streakiness to him. Once he levels in he can be a solid fantasy contributor similar to 2015.

Mitch Trubisky
Trubisky’s start against the Buccaneers is surely an aberration. Yet there are positives to consider him a top fifteen fantasy quarterback. One is the increased usage of throwing to Tarik Cohen out of the backfield. Those are safe yards that will be there weekly. Also their ability to hit the intermediate to deep route when needed.

Running Backs

Mike Davis
Seattle once again has stirred the pot with their backfield options. Injuries at the tailback position have opened the door for Mike Davis to be a main contributor. He took advantage in week four rushing for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. The question is how often can Davis be counted on as the Seahawks will soon have to open up their offense through the air.

Nick Chubb
The damage Chubb did on just three touches is what fantasy owners have been waiting on. For now Chubb has to be a stash and hope guy, with Carlos Hyde showing strong validity to remain the main option for the Browns.

Wide Receivers

Dede Westbrook
With the Jaguars rush attack struggling Blake Bortles has ascended in fantasy quarterback rankings similar to a few years back. This is automatic dividends for a Jaguars wide receiver core that lost Allen Robinson to free agency and Marquise Lee to injury. Westbrook’s balloon game this past week against the Jets shows him as a capable bench fantasy wide receiver.

Sterling Shepard
Owners of Giants fantasy weapons don’t know what to do with Eli Manning’s poor efficiency. Yet PPR leagues have some value as showcased with Shepard’s ten catches this past week against the Saints. A touchdown boosted Shepard’s value who can be had in several leagues waiver wires.
